The season of Advent reminds us of the coming of our Savior and how he came as a child in the manger Bethlehem, how he comes to us right now in word and sacrament and how he will come in at the end of the age to be our judge and to take us to life everlasting. It is not a season is bright as Christmas. It is a penitential season when we do what John the Baptist says and “repent”. Our altar colors are purple.
So imagine my surprise when I saw these colors in a Mexican bakery before Thanksgiving. It is an amazing scene. Pretty soon the pretty colors of Christmas will be fully realized but Advent preparation still goes on.
