The coming of the Wise men is important because it says that Christ is the King of the whole world. Christ is the Lord of the whole world. Christ is the fulfillment of prophecies that all the ends the earth would see that salvation of God. Their gifts are a prophecy too. Gold is the gift for Kings – Christ is our King. Frankincense is a gift given to God – Jesus is God. Myrrh is a spice used to anoint the dead – the Child is born to die. Some people believe that the visit of the Wise Men is especially important because it was the last time in recorded history that men stopped to ask directions from anybody. (I wish I could claim that one but I heard it twice on the radio.) As with everything else the visit of the Wise Men had all kinds of legends arise around it. In an old magazine I found a poem called the “Ballad of Befana” by a women named Helen McGinty. I wrote some music for it and here is ……………………………………
