A principle of justice is fairness. No partiality etc. Scales should be fair as we measure. Yet we are surrounded by unfairness. Is it fair when a teacher makes $40000 a year and a pro baseball pitcher makes $40000 a pitch? Who decides that measurement and why? Is it fair that the market place chooses or should we let the politicians?
Since fairness is in the eye of the observer and what I consider fair may not seem fair to you let’s try “equality”. Of course legal philosophers have a field day with the equality as a principle as well. There is an equality of opportunity. There can be an equality of process. There can be an equality of opportunity in the court system and in the political system but there can never be an equality of result. I may have an equal opportunity to apply for a job as a professional baseball pitcher but I can guarantee you the results will not be equal.
Does God treat us equally? Paul says that God consigned all to perdition because of sin. No distinction.
Romans 5:19
For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
That is an equality of treatment but will it be an equality of result?
