This is a picture of flooding in Green Bay Wisconsin. When I was in Taiwan I heard snippets of conversation about “bomb cyclones” and flooding in River Forest that was of interest to some of the missionaries. I never heard about the full effects until I got home and had a change to unwind and check things out. Fargo and Morehead were taking precautions and starting to stockpile sandbags and so the almost annual flood watch starts. Folks in Nebraska and other places are in a jam and in danger so please consider helping.
You can go to https://www.lcms.org/givenow/disaster, and LCMS World Relief and Human Care will put that donation to good use. You can also help Orphan Grain Train.
Orphan Grain Train (OGT) is a faith-based, non-profit organization which has been providing for the needs of people world-wide for the last 25 years. Since we opened our doors three years ago, our Jamestown branch has participated in the collection of items for disaster relief for the victims of hurricanes occurring in the last few seasons. We are now asking for the help of our local friends once again, but for a cause closer to home.
The recent devastation of flooding in Nebraska, South Dakota and other areas has been the catalyst for our current campaign. The following is a list of items that have been requested by the OGT, International office:
5 gallon buckets
paper towels
latex gloves
mops
brooms
gallon liquid cleaner (mold control)
work gloves
face masks
shovels
wheel barrels
rubber boots
toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, deodorant, etc.)
bottled water
We will be collecting through the end of April. Items can be brought to the OGT warehouse located at 103 4th Ave SE. Our hours of operation are 9AM to noon on Saturdays and Mondays. Alternatively, arrangements may be made to open the warehouse at different times as needed by contacting Andrea Eckstein at (701) 658-9057
