One of the great joys in life is to travel to a strange country and gather in strange places and worship with strangers and to hear the rhythms and the notes and the melodies of our hymns sung in a strange tongue. Singing in downtown Nairobi the great Reformation hymn “A Mighty Fortress”, or out on the Mara hearing the strains of “Abide with Me” is a great feeling.
Here in Taiwan we attended church and heard hymns sung simultaneously in both Chinese and English. It was interesting to say the least. To meet Lutheran folks half way around the world is a great joy and humbling as well. It is a wonderful opportunity and I am grateful to be here.
We had the opportunity to dedicate a prototype of a Chinese version of the Lutheran Service Book. It is wonderful to see the workings of our church around the world.
