I wrote about my enjoyment of Merle Haggard’s music the other day. He had a way of getting into the problems and issues that people who work in the heartland some times have and the problems of everyday life that bear down on folks. He wrote one about December that is apropos. It is a simple song about a laid off worker and his worries about fulfilling the expectations we have of Christmas. You don’t have to be laid off down at the factory to feel the pressure.
