The mission of Christ was the redemption of the world. All of the work of Jesus Christ to redeem me a lost and condemned creature, to purchase and win me from sin death and the power of the devil, is explained in his own words to those frightened rejected disciples who met him on the road to Emmaus and who meet Him We have heard that marvelous Easter story so often but it is good to remember that they met Him on the road. He opens the Bible to them and shows them that everything in the Law and the Prophets had to do with Him and His mission to forgive sins. He pretends to leave them and they utter those marvelous words; “abide with us fast falls the eventide”. Inside the house, in the breaking of bread at supper they recognize Him and He meets them again with the other disciples back in Jerusalem and says, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead on the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.…” Luke 24:47.
